Quality Hill Walking Tour

To enjoy the beauty of the architecture of the many fine old homes and buildings, there are two walking tours available. There are printable maps for these tours on these pages.  Pre-printed maps are available at the Pana visitors center, City Hall, and various other places throughout town.

Illinois as a state had very poor drainage in the early days.  As a result, older homes and those of the well-to-do were located on the highest points. Pana had a North Swamp, an East Swamp, and a West Swamp. This higher area was called East Mound or Quality Hill by its residents and was referred to as Snob Hill by others. (map of Quality Hill Walking Tour)
